ÅêñïîíàòIn the National Ethnographic Museum with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences the public could enjoy for months the exhibition “Christian Images and Symbols in the Traditional Bulgarian Adornments”.

According to the curator Mr. Georgi Tsarev, the idea was to demonstrate “how the written word in the Bible, the biblical texts are transferred into iconography and from there into the applied arts, in the traditional costume of the Bulgarian woman.”

The director Prof. Nadezhda Teneva about the Ethnographic Museum

The foundations of the museum were laid in 1892 when the first Plovdiv Fair took place. It was there that part of today's collection was displayed for the first time. The state bought a large part of the handicraft objects and costumes and started a collection which belonged to the Ethnography Department of the National Museum.
