The early diagnosing of breast cancer may save your life!
By tradition, this October was full of large-scale events organized by the National Campaign for Prevention of Breast Cancer raising the awareness of the need for maximum efforts to prevent the unpleasant consequences of one of the most insidious diseases of our time. Again under the aegis of the International Women’s Club, brochures and placards were printed, T-shirts and souvenirs were given out for the single purpose of reminding our near and dear that they have to undergo a prophylactic examination.
Prevention proves to be one of the major life-saving mechanisms. This year again the data is disturbing. Every year 321 thousand new cases of breast cancer are recorded in Europe and 124 thousand women die of this disease. The morbidity is growing on a global scale, but in the countries where organized population screening is performed the death rate is going down. In Bulgaria both the morbidity and the death rate are growing. More than 36,000 Bulgarian women suffer from breast cancer. In the last 5 years, the newly registered cases are about 3500 per year. Bulgaria holds a top place in the world in late diagnosing of breast cancer. Only 15.4% of the cases are discovered in the first phase of the disease and are completely curable. On September 26, Mrs. Katie Hill, wife of the British Ambassador, received journalists at the residence to make them partial to the campaign goals. Mrs. Hill shared her experience and expressed her sympathy with the problems in Bulgaria, emphasizing that the time factor is crucial and that this disease is not dangerous if identified in time.
IWC President Mrs. Medi Al Djebouri made an appeal the campaign message to reach every woman, that she has to be provoked and encouraged for self-observation, because hers is the main role for the health of our children, families, our nation. |
