Bulgaria discussed the opportunities for future presence in Iraq after the withdrawal of its contingent Participants on Bulgaria’s side were representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army, and of the State Department, of the Pentagon and of the US Embassy in Sofia on American side. During the talks the side exchanged and discussed information on the withdrawal parameters as well as on possible forms for the future presence of our country in Iraq.

Humanitarian operation of the Bulgarian contingent in Iraq
On October 8, 2005, Bulgarian doctors from 5th infantry battalion in Iraq and their colleagues from Centre-South Multinational division performed medical check-ups in the village of Al Akra and provided medicines to the needing while over 50 patients were hospitalised in the Echo Base medical service. The local tribal and religious leaders thanked the Bulgarian militaries for their care, professionalism and humanness. On October 9, 2005, the commander of 1st Armoured Brigade, Brigade General Miroslaw Rozmus decorated with medals for participation in mission militaries from the battalion, who arrived with the second and the third group of the contingent. “In this festive for you day I would like to express my gratitude for our co-operation and support thousands of kilometres away from your country, said in his address to the militaries Brigade General Miroslaw Rozmus. |
