President Georgi Parvanov on a working visit in Thessalonike On April 11, during a working visit in Thessalonike President Georgi Parvanov met with his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias. The meeting between the two presidents was the first since Karolos Papoulias assumed office on March 12, 2005. They discussed issues related to Bulgaria's EU integration, the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Greece, the situation in Southeastern Europe and topical international issues. The economic ties between the two countries, the oil pipeline Bourgas–Alexandroupolis and the opening of two new checkpoints at the Greek-Bulgarian border were also on the agenda of the meeting. Official visit of President Georgi Parvanov to the Republic of Austria On April 20, President Georgi Parvanov left on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Austria at the invitation of the Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer. The visit was aimed at promoting the political dialogue at top level. Meeting of Minister Passy and Minister Michel Barnier On April 26, the ministers of foreign affairs of Bulgaria and France met in Paris. Before the French Foreign Ministry Minister Passy was welcomed with a honorary lane of guardsmen. The European trend prevails in Bulgaria-Macedonia relations On April 27, President Georgi Parvanov met with the President of Macedonia Branko Crvenkovski, who was on a one-day official visit to Sofia. Joschka Fischer: We will expect you at midnight on January 1, 2007 On April 27–28, at the invitation of the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, the German Vice-Chancellor and Federal Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer was on a visit to Bulgaria. This visit was the first of this rank after Bulgaria signed the Treaty of Accession to the EU. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated our country on the signing of the Treaty. He said the event was a historical milestone on our road to the European Union. Since the very beginning Germany has been supporting the perspective Bulgaria to become a full member of the EU and we have been actively interceding for this, Minister Fischer stated. Georgi Parvanov took part in the 8th South-East European Co-operation Process (SEECP) Summit Romanian President Traian Basescu hosted the summit, which took place on May 11 in Bucharest. Within the framework of the forum the Bulgarian President held a series of bilateral meetings. He had talks with the President of Romania Traian Basescu, with the Prime Minister of Greece Kostas Karamanlis, with the President of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, with the President of Macedonia Branko Crvenskovski and with his Croatian counterpart Stjepan Mesic, as well as with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn. |
