Maya Andonova has been drawing since 7–8 years. But her paintings are already popular and many of them are in private collections in the country and abroad. She was born in Sofia and, strange as it may seem, she graduated from the Vocational School of Mechanics. She was working as a technologist till the moment fate allotted something else for her. She starts painting. But not with a brush – with fingers. Different, strange and extremely talented. After that came her other inspiration – to paint with words. Love beats in her verses. She says she writes them at one go.

Things like that happen in life sometimes – a sudden gush of talent, its manifestation and establishment. That happened to Maya Andonova. Only in a few years she created dozens of paintings – scenery, still life and figures. All of them are in warm colours. All of them exude the deep feeling of goodness and tranquillity. How does she achieve this? The most accurate definition is maybe contained in the word “non-standard”. “I feel that someone is guiding my hand. As if this is a talent sent from heaven. I draw with fingers, mixing the colours right on the canvas. The painting is born in the most unusual way. Incredible flowers, fantastic sceneries, bizarre compositions, bordering on the infinite, are formed.” The colours, the tenderness of the shades, the bold strokes define the uniqueness of her technique. Her paintings, with the warmth they emit, arouse the curiosity. Some of her admirers even think that they restore their energy balance and bring them positive energy. The painter herself admits that she drew most of the painting at places famous for their strong positive energy fields. Anyhow, no one can deny being touched when watching the paintings. A touch that fills the soul and the body with harmony and peace. Maya Andonova's paintings are as pure as a child's drawing. And they tell us all sorts of stories. “They are like parables – for the good, love, the universe. Topics as old as the world. If you see the wisdom and morals in them, you'll link them with the relations between people and with their feelings. Usually I draw flowers. It might be a squill or a bouquet of flowers of the field. Some paintings are born along with their names, others I haven't named yet. Sometimes the names come afterwards. For me drawing is a drive. It's connected to my spirituality. For example, the painting “Unusual” came somewhat from inside. It was born along with the verses: “…One woman, /one man, / that's what you are, that's who you are.” The image of the girl from this painting wraps you with tenderness, immerses you in its honest innocence. That's how “Two Pearls” were born as well – two tears in the eyes of the woman; “Wanted” – the man just the way a woman wants him, with a little “kindness, purity and a touch of bashfulness.” As well as the subjects of “Throbbing Heart”, “The Universe”, and the even more abstract “Enchantment” and “We, From the Nothingness”.

The paintings of the artist emerge along with the verses of the poetess. And maybe because they are filled with love, they shine as precious stones and sound as beautiful melodious songs: “A pearl from Tahiti you are!”... “The pearl is a living creature. She is virginity and longevity, she is the tear of an angel” – reflects the poetess on her favorite poem. In it, as well as in all the other poems from the book of poetry “Lyrics” is hidden her philosophy, her answers to the questions of life. She thinks that “in love, and in life, you must give in order to receive. A person must give a lot in order to live and work honestly. Honesty is the groundwork on which professionalism is built.” Maya Andonova follows this dictum in her art, as well as in her life.
