On February 23–24, 2005, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy was on an official visit to Yemen, where he met with President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, and Defence Minister Abdullah Ali Alewa. This was the first visit of a Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Yemen since the country united in 1990.
