Music is a universe – endless, boundless and unfathomable, the musician says. The traveller, absorbed in unriddling the secrets of the universe, is a virtuoso but also a man who notices the people and the world around him. About the pianist, pedagogue, teacher and friend Atanas Kurtev speak his friends and followers. The book also features personal memories of the maestro as well as his letters to his closest people. The richly illustrated edition traces out the crucial meetings in the personal and professional path of the musician. We see his mother – his first piano teacher, the spiritual connection with whom was never severed, the pedagogue Lili Atanasova, the colleagues from the Conservatoire of Petersburg, concerts on different stages, memories from world tours, meetings with great names in music.

The letters are an invaluable finding that let us touch the spiritual life, pursuits and worries of the man and the artist.

The professor who is still riding his bicycle in the streets of Sofia is a teacher in the National Musical Academy and is one of the few pianists who have had the opportunity to play the grand piano of Scriabin. He is known as performer of Chopin whom he recreates with romanticism, lyric and insight, although he is also a brilliant virtuoso in the interpretations of Scriabin, Brahms, Schubert, Bartok, Liszt, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky… The book Atanas Kurtev – Poet of the Piano, compiled by the maestro’s life companion gives everyone a chance to peep into the secrets of the maestro and of his music.

The launch in the Russian Culture-Information Centre was attended by many musicians, colleagues, students, artists, sculptors, representatives of the business and many journalists. And of course the whole team of Bulgarian Bestseller and Bulgarian Diplomatic Review magazine.

The maestro was congratulated by the chairman of Young Bulgarian Talents Foundation Asya Lingorska, Prof. Yavor Konov – student of Prof. Kurtev’s, Assoc. Prof. Teodora Nestorova, the researcher Vladimir Garistov, the host of popular culture broadcasts Raina Iotova, etc.
