In 2008 it is a hundred and twenty years since the foundation of St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia.
In the distant 1888 the higher pedagogical course opened doors to 43 students in the building of First Boys’ High School in Sofia in Moskovska St. The lecturer staff comprised seven smart young men, mostly educated abroad, who were later called “the university sedmochislenitsi*”. Their names will remain forever in the history of Bulgarian education – Acad. Alexander Teodorov-Balan, Prof. Lyubomir Miletovich, Prof. Ivan Georgov, Prof. Stanimir Stanimirov, Prof. Ivan Danev, Prof. Yosif Kovachev and Prof. Nikolai Mihailovski. They are cut on a plaque in the central foyer of the university, inaugurated on November 25, 2008. Alma Mater celebrated its anniversary with scientific conferences, roundtables, exhibitions, concerts, cultural and sports events. |
