The modern state and achievements of the University Library in the sphere of librarian-informational service staged the exhibition-demonstration “The University Library in the Digital Present”. It was held in the Aula of Sofia University on May 18, 2004. This year the University Library of St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University celebrated two jubilees – 70 years since the construction of its building in 1934 (designed by the famous Bulgarian architects I. Vassilyov and D. Tsolov and proclaimed for a monument of culture) and ten years since the introduction of automated information services. Ever since 1994 the library has been the leader in the field of information provision in Bulgaria. It offers a wide range of electronic resources and services like access to an online and offline database, online scientific periodicals, electronic books and reference books. There is a special reading-room called “Mediatheque”. The library offers a thorough digital solution to the search of articles, quotations, inquiries about the impact factor of scientific publications, etc. It offers the service of electronic delivery of documents as well as adapted services for disabled people. The future of the University Library is increasingly associated with the application of digital information. It is directed to an active partnership with the academic community for the development of programmes for distance and further education, the provision of modules for TV education and setting adequate conditions for interactive lecturing and studying. This is its response to the aspiration for European integration in the field of university education and the idea to create a unified European educational space, which the University Library has already joined as an active and creative participant.
