Nenko Balkanski in Paintings and Memories
Jubilee exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth

Sad and deep are the paintings of Nenko Balkanski, and incredibly beautiful. The artist himself was undoubtedly an interesting and magnetic personality. On July 26 many people gathered at the National Art Gallery – family, friends and admirers, to pay homage to his memory and enjoy his artistic heritage. Until the end of the summer in the seven halls for temporary exhibitions of the Gallery were shown 80 canvasses of the great Bulgarian painter.

Sofia Opera in the Theatre of Great Ideas

The National Opera opened the new season with the new production of Ballo in Maschera by Verdi. With this title and with Puccini’s Turandot in 2008 it will make its fourth tour in Japan.

Regardless of the hard working conditions during the overhauls of the opera house, the cast and the production team managed to create for the Sofia public a true star performance by European standards.

The Gala Concert of Raina Kabaivanska and Her Students Delighted the Audience Once Again

It has become a tradition for the opening of the musical season of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra to start with a gala concert of the students from the master class of the opera prima Raina Kabaivanska, organized by New Bulgarian University. This autumn the event was under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Gian Battista Campagnola, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy, in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute. The concert was in memory of Luciano Pavarotti, with whom the Bulgarian soprano often shared the stage, especially in Puccini’s Tosca.

Tania Kalimerova discovered the DNA of the Soul

The Bulgarian artist Tania Kalimerova received the honorary medal of the President of Italy Giorgio Napolitano, who bestowed two grand prizes for art on the occasion of 210 years of the choice of the National Flag. The awarding ceremony took place on September 12, 2007 in Rome, in the halls of La Pigna Gallery where the works were displayed of the members of the Catholic Association of Italian Artists from all sections in Italy, and of foreigners, living in the county for at least ten years.
