Every August since 1956 the neonomads jump in their boats on the Danube for an international tour. With affection we call it TID, or Tour International Danubien. The rowing starts from Germany where the Danube is still a naughty mountain foamy stream. Later they cross Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, and Yugoslavia and finally the TID officially finishes in Bulgaria.
For almost two months the merry teams cover about 2000 kilometres. In each Danube country one stage of the tour takes place. In Bulgaria it starts from Vidin with official celebrations of welcoming the rowers – classical music concerts from the Danube countries and general rejoicing. The camp of the river neonomads tribe is pitched outside the walls of the magnificent fortress of Baba Vida. |
