The Idea of a Modern School is Feasible On May 10, at the French Cultural Centre in Sofia the 10th anniversary of the Movement for Modern School in Bulgaria was celebrated. The organisation was set up to meet the need of humanisation of the Bulgarian educational institutions and uniting of teachers and specialists, exchange of information and good practices among them, as well as with their colleagues from Europe and the whole world. Imperceptibly I became a true Bulgarian On May 12, St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University hosted the solemn ceremony on awarding the eminent Hungarian scientist of Bulgarian Studies Prof. Juliana Pandur Maroshine with honorary insignia with blue ribbon. She received the high academic distinction at the suggestion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Faculty of Slavic Philologies. She is reputed to be an excellent lecturer, a serious researcher, a knowledgeable linguist and a great friend of Bulgaria. Associate Prof. Zhang Sunfen-Kaneti Received Sofia University’s Honorary Insignia with Blue Ribbon H.E. Mr. Xie Hanshun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China, Djan Sun-Foun Caneti, senior research fellow Alexander Alexiev, Head of Chinese Studies department, prof. Alexander Fedotov, Sofia University Vice Rector The ceremony took place on May 21, at the Centre for Eastern Languages and Cultures. For fifty years now Associate Prof. Kaneti has been working at St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University, teaching students of Chinese Philology. Her major interests lie in the field of Chinese grammar and vocabulary, and translation. She compiled the first Bulgarian-Chinese Thematic Dictionary and then published her comprehensive Chinese-Bulgarian Dictionary and collection of Chinese reading texts. These are reference and work books familiar to specialists, which have been used for generations. “The views and ideas of Imam Khomeini…” The conference “The views and ideas of Imam Khomeini from the perspective of Bulgarian and Iranian scientists and lecturers”, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the decease of the Great Imam took place on June 3, in Sofia. Prof. Peter Schreiner – Doctor Honoris Causa of Sofia University During the traditional May Days of Culture, Sofia University hosted the ceremony on conferring the prestigious title Doctor Honoris Causa to Prof. Peter Schreiner. Prof. Peter Berger is a sociologist of international repute On May 25, the Aula of St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University gathered the elite of Bulgarian philosophers and sociologists to bestow the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the world famous sociologist Prof. Peter Berger. Prof. Stanley Fisher – the Man Who Proposed the Currency Board for Bulgaria On June 5, St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University hosted a solemn ceremony for awarding Prof. Stanley Fisher with the most prestigious distinction Doctor Honoris Causa. |
