This is how the Croatian artist Izabela Simunovic named her exhibition at the Sofia University. The University’s central foyer hosted in February some of her works thanks to the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Bulgaria and with the kind cooperation of the town of Zagreb. Her paintings, that stirred great interest among students and guests, were presented by Croatia’s Ambassador to our country H.E. Mr. Drazen Vukov-Colic: “The lines are frugal, the space is flat and the colours are softened. It is only the football balls that take us back to the game of mass illusion, otherwise we are left alone in the unknown space. In this apparent simplicity everything becomes a symbol and a sign, mystical and mythical, joyful and painful. This is why her painting is a wonderful confirmation to the time-honoured truth that beginning and end, simple and complex, reason and emotion, common and unique are constantly intertwined without definitive answers. Between heaven and nightmare there is hardly a distinct and clear-cut line.”
