On December 4, 2006 in the presence of President Georgi Parvanov and Sofia Mayor Boiko Borisov the first visitors saw the oldest frescoes in the eastern part of the temple.

In 2004 the church was transferred under the authority of the National Museum of History. Eterna Foundation started a fund-raising campaign for the restoration of the murals. In the initiative participated the Bulgarian National Television show “Bulgarian Memory” and Pliska Association.

Under an approved project, in March 2006 a restoration team started work.
