Ivan Garvalov, Ambassador, President of UNA of Bulgaria The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Each year on December 18, the members of the United Nations and the international community mark the creation and adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly. This historic and fundamental document articulated UN’s vision on the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual human being. The Declaration is a fundamental document, which, in many respects, complements the UN Charter and extends the scope of its primal end “to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small1 UN and the Reform When the Organization of the United Nations was conceived and created in the period 1941 – June 26, 1945, its founders – 50 countries, that stood against the Nazi-fascist pact between Germany, Italy, and Japan and emerged as victors from the Second World War, set out as their major end “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small...”
Challenges, problems and difficulties in absorption of the EU funds in Bulgaria On December 15, 2006, in the National Palace of Culture, UNDP Bulgaria presented the Report “Are we Prepared for the EU Funds? Challenges and opportunities for Local Development Actors’. Participating in the event were the President of the Bulgarian National Assembly Mr. Georgi Pirinski, UNDP Resident representative Mr. Neil Buhne and H. E. Mr. Kauko Yamsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland. The report identifies gaps in preparations and indicates opportunities to boost the readiness for absorbing the EU funds. |
