On August 10, on Cape Kaliakra took place the official unveiling ceremony of a monument to Admiral Fyodor Ushakov on the occasion of the 215th anniversary of the victory of the Russian squadron under the command of the admiral over the Turkish navy. This was the greatest battle in the Black Sea aquatory that went down in history as one of the most remarkable events in Russia’s fight for the liberation of the Christian peoples on the Balkan Peninsula from Ottoman yoke. Admiral Ushakov won over 40 battles and did not allow a single soldier of his to be captured. Five years ago, the Russian Orthodox Church proclaimed him a saint.
