The celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the dormition of St. Cyprian, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia commenced on September 29, in Moscow. Later in the day, a memorial plaque was mounted in the place, where the residence of Cyprian used to stand in the Zolotie Kluchi (Golden Keys) residential complex in the presence of H.E. Mr. Plamen Grozdanov, Bulgaria’s ambassador to Russia. On September 30, a scientific conference was held, dedicated to the 600th anniversary of Metropolitan Cyprian of Moscow, at the Sretensky Monastery, which was erected in the place where the Mother of God of Vladimir icon was met, brought from the city of Vladimir to Moscow at the request of Cyprian. Scientific papers were presented by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Metropolitan Kyrill of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Archimandrite Tikhon, Hegumen of the Sretensky Monastery, Archimandrite Makary Veretennikov, Archpriest Sergei Pravdoliubov, Prof. PhD Anatolij A. Turilov, Prof. PhD Igor Kaliganov, Prof. PhD Gelian Mikhailovich Prokhorov, Alexei Artemiev, Prof. PhD Axinia Djurova, Prof. PhD Neviana Doncheva-Panayotova. On October 1, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia co-celebrated the Divine Liturgy with the official representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Their Right Reverends Grigory, Metropolitan of Veliko Turnovo; Metropolitan Kyrill of Varna and Veliki Preslav and Metropolitan Gavriel, as well as with His Grace Athenagoras, Bishop of Sinope, representative of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. After the end of the Divine Liturgy, an official dinner was given in the Kremlin, hosted by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II in honour of the Bulgarian delegation, H. E. Plamen Grozdanov and diplomats from the Bulgarian embassy. During the dinner, an honorary diploma was conferred on Prof. PhD Neviana Doncheva-Panayotova and an honorary plaque on Prof. PhD Axinia Djurova for their contribution to the Orthodox culture on behalf of Their Holinesses Alexy II and Maxim, Patriarch of Bulgaria. Such awards were granted for the first time ever and the two patriarchs had signed them in person. Later in the day on October 1, an international scientific theological conference on “Moscow-Athos: A millennium of spiritual unity” was held at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral. |
