Lyuben Gaidarov (1906-2004) has a significant contribution to contemporary Bulgarian plastic culture. In his long life and artistic path, the artist has created a great number of landscapes, still lives, portraits and compositions, where man occupies a central place. Born in Rousse, he graduated from the Sofia Academy of Fine Arts. Unemployment and lack of money forced him to seek a job as a teacher and he worked consecutively in Pirdop, Petrich and Pernik. Besides his role as a painter, Lyuben Gaidarov had a great contribution to the cultural life of Pernik. He was among the founders of the group of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in Pernik, and for a while, he was its secretary. He was also among the initiators for the establishment of the city’s Art Gallery, which now bears his name.
