Í. ïð. ä-ð Õåáà Åëìàðàñè Thanks to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in collaboration with the St. St. Cyril and Methodius Library, a Papyrus exhibition opened doors on 1 June. An agreement was also signed on cooperation between Bulgarian and Egyptian national libraries which to find expression in exchange of books, co-editions, translations and scientific researches.

The exhibition at the National Library in Sofia is an opportunity for everyone who’d like to elevate the hustle-bustle of one’s everyday life with knowledge of eternity of the world and humankind.

To us, people of the modern age, papyrus has its own charm, because along with the mysteries it carries to this day reflections of prehistoric times and traditions and sheds light on thousands of years of history and heritage.

Papyrus is believed to have been used as far as 4,000 years BC for writing purposes, yet due to its strength and durability, it was used by ancient Egyptians in the manufacture of furniture and its root was a source of food, medicine, as well as perfume production.

The exhibition comes to remind that among the ancient civilizations of the African continent one is best aware that the world is an old place with a long future in store. Something more: in line with the increasing cultural cooperation between both countries and awareness of the richness and diversity of the cultural heritages that both Egypt and Bulgaria possess, a reciprocation of cultural weeks is planned. The Embassy in association with the Ministry of Culture will hold an Egyptian Cultural week in Sofia in October and likewise Bulgaria will organize a Cultural week in Cairo the following year.
