Galina Gancheva, President of Ladies Lions Club “Veliko Tarnovo – Tsarevets”
“Our Club was chartered in July 2003. Its members are 25 ladies, prominent in different professional areas. We help children in disadvantaged position and with health problems, we assisted in the buying of a thermoablation apparatus for the Oncological Dispensary in Veliko Tarnovo. Currently we are raising money for a mobile ophthalmological office for examination of children below the age of 8; we provided osteoporosis examination to 70 women and one-year treatment of those of them who needed it. I would say we are active in the struggle against spiritual blindness and giving light to all people in society. Together with Choveshtina (Humaneness) Association, we developed and completed a project for furnishing an Esperanto and computer literacy room for sightless or visually impaired people. We provide training by master’s programs to orphan students or visually impaired students in St. St. Cyril and Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. There are many charity-bent people, who can donate money, but this is all too easy compared to devoting part of your personal time for the fulfillment of a task in service of a noble cause. One must be ready to disclose one’s soul and the good in oneself. It was these ideas and our zeal that stirred the enthusiasm of the young people. We were very happy to become sponsors of the Leo Club. This is our newest undertaking, we are very proud and fond of. It seems very strange to me, we say that many young people are carried away with the chalga and some neglect their education, but these children started working with such zeal and carried our several charity actions that even infected us with their enthusiasm. Young people should be inspired with confidence, be given greater space for activity so they would realize they can unfold their leader’s qualities.”
