TO BRIGHT FUTURE

Юлияна Томова

1150 years after the creation of St. St. Cyril and Methodius\' alphabet, it became crystal clear that the script is the most glaring distinctive feature of Bulgaria and the Bulgarians in the global world. The first official celebration of May 24 as Day of the Bulgarian Education and Culture and the Slavonic Script took place in the distant 19 th c. and this impulse to praise the letters in a separate holiday expressed the desire of the Bulgarian people during the Revival to make a cult of the spiritual, the moral as the principal prerequisite for building up a modern state.

There may be disputes and differences among scholars as to the origin of the brothers Cyril and Methodius, but hardly anyone would dare call in question the role of the Bulgarian state in the preservation and development of the work of the holy brothers and their disciples as early as the 9 th c. The foundation of the Preslav and the Ohrid schools of letters has no analogue in the European history of the time. The enlighteners from the Tarnovo school in the late 14 th c. gave a strong impetus to the advancement of the literature of all Slavs, and particularly in Kiev and Moscow Russ.

There is no state on the map of Europe, which existed for 1300 years under the same name, except Bulgaria. Thanks to literature and culture, the Bulgarians did not lose the awareness of their national identity during the centuries when they had lost their statehood. Therefore Bulgaria resurrected like Phoenix.

We mark May 24, 2005, with a new role of the Bulgarian alphabet: through our Cyrillic for the first time all Slavs receive official recognition of their letters in the European Union countries.

Let us glorify the work of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, which continues to lead us to a bright future!
